Should've posted this yesterday when I was still in emo mode ahahhah.....
Anyway, for those who dont know the story yet:
Yesterday was my senior designer's (Clinton) first day back in the office after around 3-4 days from sick leave. It was around 2pm when suddenly the Creative Services Director (the boss; Jeff) asked Clinton if he has a few minutes to talk. Then they went to the boardroom.
Around half an hour later....Clinton came back and he was packing his stuff. I didn't really suspect anything wrong because he often leaves work early if there's no work for him. Suddenly everyone started gathering around Clinton and I was like "huh? what's going on?" Clinton then thanked everyone, told them to keep in contact and said "I'm out, I'm going...I just got sacked" My jaw dropped literally, I was like "...What? ...Why? You're kidding right...?" and Clinton said "No Cindy, I'm not kidding...I just got fired." I still couldnt believe what's happening in front of me.
I stood up from my seat when Clinton was shaking everyone's hands and when it was my turn he hugged me and said "Sorry I couldn't keep my promise to you" I was like...Oh God, tell me this isn't happening...
Jeff came after Clinton left and said "We're going to have a meeting at 4. I just want to explain everything so there's no misunderstanding going on"
After Clinton left my mind was completely blank, couldn't focus, couldn't do work and I really wanted to get out of the office so I took my wallet and left. But damn you rain! It was pouring so I only got myself a cup of coffee and came back.
Finally it's 4pm. Jeff then explained to everyone that he felt that Clinton's not a good team player, and he'd rather have a fully functioning team that works well together. They've been in arguments before about how to run the business and Jeff felt that Clinton's place is not here. So he'd rather let Clinton go do whatever he wants to do somewhere else.
I bet you're wondering why I'm so devastated after he left....
Well, first of all, Clinton is one of the best designer I've ever met. It was such an honour to be able to work with him and even more when he offered me the job. I was literally like "OMGGG CLINTON DUNCAN LIKES MY WORK!!!"
To be honest, most of the works I do at Sony are...well...shit jobs. One of the main reasons I stayed was to learn as muach as I can from Clinton. He helps me a lot when I'm stuck, he took me to meetings, taught me how to deal with clients because he felt design is not the only thing a designer needs if they want to succeed. He always asks me "What have you learned today?"
He told me once "If you make a good work, I'll pin it on my wall" and since then my mission was to have my work pinned there. He really was the kind of designer I aspire to be. I have so much respect for him.
So imagine suddenly that person's gone. Fired. I felt so lost, I keep asking myself if what I've believed in all this time is wrong. I really couldn't find any reason why I should stay at Sony. I wanted to quit.
Butttt...after talking to some people I now realised that it's a stupid thought. So I've made up my mind to stay and look for the prize (Astria knows what I'm talking about lol)
Oh God, this post is long.... -_-'
